After the success of the Quirky + GE partnership, Quirky and GE extended their relationship into the lighting category, with Quirky being commissioned to design, engineer and produce GE’s first connected light bulb.

My role was to oversee design direction, user experience and execution from initial concepts all the way through manufacture to store shelf and beyond.

One of the key differentiators between this and competitor products was that this light bulb was aimed to be sold at under $15 USD, while at the time competitor offerings were closer to $30 USD in price.

Starting with the A19 Edison screw bulb, we set about creating a unique and recognizable design language for a GE Link Family.

By incorporating a clear dome we exposed both the LED and wireless technology within. We tuned the look of the exposed Zigbee antenna to create an iconic interpretation of Edison’s original incandescent filament design.
